Cabinet refinishing and painting service in Delafield Wisconsin

Delafield’s most valued cabinet refinishing company

When you schedule a cost estimate with Empire Painting, we will personally visit your home to evaluate the work and provide a free quote. Empire's owner Dan Brooks personally reviews all estimates for pricing transparency, clarity, and consistency.

Empire Painting does not require down payments. Check or cash payment is required upon satisfactory completion. Home financing available upon approval through EnerBank USA.

For cabinetry, Empire only uses Benjamin Moore INSL-X Cabinet Coat.  And because we understand how important it is to choose just the right color, we offer free consultations with an independent color consultant and interior designer. If the exact color you want isn’t available, we can create custom blends to give your cabinets and millwork the exact look you had in mind (painting cabinetry black is discouraged).

Our full-time, in-house team of experienced painters work with us year-round. They’re all uniformed, respectful of you and your home, and held to the highest standards of workmanship.

Our Cabinet & Wood Finishing Process Step-by-Step

The entire process typically requires two to three consecutive working days on-site for cabinet box prep and finishing. Doors and drawer faces are returned approximately 10 business days later. The more time cabinets have to dry (cure), the better.

Step 1: Prepare the area.

We assess the wood grain and condition. We cover floors, mask appliances and drape the kitchen to enclose the work area and contain sanding dust. We remove cabinet doors and drawer faces, labeling each for proper placement, wrap in packing blankets for protection, and transport to Empire's workshop in Delafield.

Step 2: Prime, caulk and putty as needed.

Before priming, we’ll do a light sanding to ensure good adhesion of the primer. On oak cabinets, we’ll back-brush the primer instead of spraying to help infill the porous wood grain. We use a shellac bonding primer to ensure a strong bond to the existing coating and to help block stains. Oak cabinetry gets a coat of Aquaclear grain filler.

After priming, we caulk all seams with a 55-year rating elastomeric caulk. Surface imperfections and nail holes are filled as needed with spackle and sanded smooth. We will putty hardware placement holes if requested.

Step 3: Apply finish coat and remove all masking and floor covering.

Doors and drawer fronts are finished off-site at our Delafield workshop. This process takes five to seven days.

Once finished, door/drawer fronts are carefully wrapped in furniture packing blankets, delivered, and reinstalled.

Finally, Empire performs touch-ups as needed to both the cabinet boxes and the doors/drawer fronts.
