Cheery Sussex Colonial

This Sussex colonial home was ready for exterior attention. Before our crew arrived, years of Wisconsin weather wear had caused peeling paint along the siding and trim. The color faded into a muted tone of its former self.

The Process

For this property, Empire thoroughly removed all loose and flanking paint from surfaces by scraping and sanding. Sanding removes fibrous, grayed wood and promotes strong primer adhesion. We used Sherwin Williams 55-year caulk as needed and secured loose siding and trim boards. As is typical with wood homes after years of wear, some carpentry repairs were necessary. Our team replaced the rotten wood at the gable vents, porch column, bottom of garage door column, and the missing board above the garage roof. Finish coats included one coat of Sherwin Williams PrimeRX and two coats of Sherwin Williams Woodscapes to the siding and trim of the entire home.

Color Selection

The homeowner desired a similar color palette. Drawing from the Sherwin Williams Timeless Paint collection, we applied Bittersweet Stem 7536 to siding. The Timeless Paint collection represents colors that maintain popularity over the years. Bittersweet Stem is a warm neutral complemented by the cool Foxhall Green 9184 used for the doors. On the trim, Extra White 7006 makes the windows appear larges and keeps the facade light and bright.

The Result

“We had the exterior of our home painted. Empire Painting kept us informed on the project and of any adjustments due to weather. The crew was very professional and were nice to work with. The house looks great! We would strongly recommend Empire Painting.” – Lori D.
