Transformation Story: Contemporary Pabst Farms Home

This contemporary colonial in the distinguished Pabst Farms community was due for a refreshed exterior. Although a newer home, the wood siding and trim had already begun to show signs of color fading and slight peeling. The shutters also became an unknowing host to wasp nests. It was time for Empire Painting to renew and protect this beautiful Lake Country home. Our full-time painting contractors serve all of Oconomowoc, including the Pabst Farms community and business park.

The Process

The Empire team removed the shutters on all windows and scrubbed moldy soffit areas clean with Simple Green, a biodegradable formula safe for lawns and numerous siding types. Once thoroughly dry, standard surface preparation began with hand scraping and sanding to remove any loose or flaking paint. Shutter clasp holes were properly filled, trim boards secured, and areas caulked as necessary.

For added protection against mold, soffits received a single coat of Zinsser Mold Killing primer. The remaining bare wood areas were coated with a single layer of Sherwin Williams PrimeRx. Two finish coats of Sherwin Williams Resilience followed on the siding, window and door trim, gutters, downspouts, and garage doors. Applying two finish coats enables Empire to offer a three-year warranty and allows your home exterior to weather more gracefully.

Color Selection

The homeowners selected a cooler color palette for their exterior renewal. Drawing from the Sherwin Williams Historic Paint collection, Empire applied Pewter Tankard 0023 to the siding and garage doors. For the window and door trim, gutters, downspouts, and front porch columns, our team rolled and hand brushed two coats of Urban Putty 7532. Pewter Tankard is a cool gray accented by Urban Putty, a “griege” with red undertones.

The Result

By removing the shutters and applying the same color to all areas of siding, this home appears more contemporary and cohesive. The gray and griege tones perfectly play on the front facade’s stone base columns and makes the porch even more inviting. The shake siding on the second and third story adds subtle texture. With neutral, popular shades, the finishing increases curb appeal and home value. This dwelling will look polished for years to come.

From the Homeowner:

This is a great group of people to work with. We had the exterior of our home painted as well as many exterior trim boards replaced. We also had a small interior area that needed drywall repair and painting. We couldn’t be more pleased. Everything looks great, the painters were professional and polite, and the work was completed in a timely matter. I don’t believe you could possibly be disappointed with Empire.
